GEO for ERNIE Bot
The one where classic SEO still pays.
ERNIE Bot sits inside the Baidu ecosystem, and its answers reflect that. Material that Baidu indexes well — and especially material on Baidu-owned properties — has a much shorter path into its answers than material that only exists elsewhere.
For brands that have invested in Chinese SEO over the years, this is where that investment converts most directly. For brands that have not, it is usually the platform with the widest gap to close, because the work involves indexing and encyclopedia entries rather than just content quality.
What ERNIE Bot rewards
Observed by running the same question set across every platform we cover and recording what the answers cite.
Where ERNIE Bot tends to take material from
Check this before commissioning content: material placed where a platform does not look will not reach its answers, however good it is.
Baidu-indexed pages
Indexing is the precondition, not an optimisation.
Encyclopedia entries
Baidu Baike in particular, maintained and consistent with the official site.
Established industry media
Outlets with real editorial process and long-lived archives.
Four moves that work on ERNIE Bot
Ordered by cost. The first one is usually free and usually the one that moves the number.
Questions teams ask before they start
We rank well on Baidu but ERNIE does not mention us. Why?
Ranking means a page is findable; being named means the model found material that answers the question. Pages that rank for a keyword often do not answer the question a user actually asks. Rewrite the top-ranking pages so each one answers a full question, then re-test.
Is an encyclopedia entry required?
Not required, but on this platform it is the single highest-leverage asset for identity questions ("who is this company", "are they legitimate"). For commercial recommendation questions, media and content coverage matters more.
How do we check whether our pages are indexed?
Query the exact URL in Baidu search. If it does not return, the page is not indexed and nothing else on this platform will work for it. Fix crawlability, sitemap coverage and server-rendered content before producing anything new.
Can we create the encyclopedia entry ourselves?
Yes. The usual reason an entry fails review is sourcing: claims without a checkable third-party source are rejected. Assemble the sources first, then write the entry around what they support.
We are a new company with little coverage. Where do we start?
With the facts that are already checkable: registration details, qualifications, filings, address. This platform surfaces those readily and they require no third-party coverage. Media work comes after the entity itself is unambiguous.
Does paid search placement affect these answers?
Paid placement and generated answers are separate systems; buying position does not place a brand into an answer. What carries over is the organic asset: pages that are indexed and pages that already rank are the cheapest candidates to be cited.
Our entry was rejected. What now?
Read the stated reason rather than resubmitting the same text. Most rejections come down to a claim with no source, a source that is self-published, or wording that reads as promotional. Each of the three is addressed by changing the material, not the submission.
