GEO for legal services
The industry where the constraint is the strategy.
Legal services have the tightest advertising constraints of any category we work with. Superlatives, win-rate claims and case-outcome promotion are off the table before any content is written — which rules out most generic GEO playbooks outright.
That constraint turns out to be an advantage. Content that states what the law says, what the process is and what it typically costs is exactly the material generative engines prefer: specific, checkable, and useful without being promotional. Firms that write it well get cited more than firms that try to sell.
These are questions, not keywords.
A question set for this industry is built from wording like this — taken from sales and support conversations, not from a keyword tool.
- "How do I file for labour arbitration in Shenzhen and how long does it take"
- "Roughly what does a contract dispute lawyer cost"
- "Do I need a lawyer for this or can I handle it myself"
- "How do I choose a lawyer for a company equity dispute"
Constraints that shape the work in legal services
These are the reasons a generic GEO playbook does not transfer here unchanged.
What changes because of those constraints.
Same four-stage loop as every other engagement — diagnosis, plan, publish, re-measure — with these adjustments inside it.
Questions teams ask before they start
Can you write the legal content for us?
No. Substance and legal judgement come from the firm; we handle structure, question framing, FAQ markup and placement. Generic writers producing legal content is a risk to the firm, not a saving.
Which questions can a firm realistically win?
Procedure, cost range and how-to-choose questions at the city and matter-type level. Questions asking who is best rarely produce a named recommendation in this category, and content aimed at them is spent for little return.
Who bears responsibility if published content is wrong?
The substantive content and legal judgement come from the firm, and every piece is confirmed by the firm before publication. Structure, question design and placement are ours. This division is written into the engagement.
Does the advertising review slow things down?
It changes the order rather than the duration. Screening happens before writing instead of after drafting, which removes the rewrite cycle that a post-hoc review usually causes.
Can one set of content serve several cities?
Only where the procedure is genuinely identical. Where practice differs by city, a page written at provincial or national level competes for neither city's questions, and city pages that differ only in place name are identifiable as templates.
What about practice areas with little public discussion?
Low volume is not the same as low value. A niche matter type may be asked a few hundred times a year, but the candidate pool is shallow enough that one thorough page can hold the answer.
