Definition
Share of voice is a brand's mentions divided by the total mentions of all brands across the same question set. It answers "of the names that get said, how many are mine".
Why it matters
It filters out category-level movement. If everyone in the category gets mentioned more this quarter, mention rate rises for everyone while share of voice stays flat — and share of voice is the honest number.
How it is used
Count symmetrically: apply the same matching rules to your brand and to competitors, exclude questions that name your brand in the prompt, and do not count a negative mention as presence.
